Assessing the needs of adults based on their level of functioning
Most behavioral health managers, as well as clinicians, make use of LOCUS or Level of Care Utilization System to assess the level of care needs of adults aged 18 years old and above.
Developed by the American Association of Community Psychiatrists, LOCUS is focused on six evaluation dimensions. Not a diagnostic tool, the LOCUS is an assessment and placement instrument that will help in the appropriate placement of the participants into a particular service or level of care.
The LOCUS will help clinicians in making decisions on which best practices the clients should go with based on their needs and level of functioning.
